During my journey to becoming my own hero, I had to learn some really hard lessons in order to overcome the obstacles I faced. A large part of it was years of trying to make myself believe that what society wanted me to be is what I wanted — nice and agreeable.
This may seem to pay off in the short term, but in the long run, if you keep diluting yourself to make others comfortable, you forget who you even are as an individual and open yourself to being a doormat. These lessons were key for my journey. I hope they will help you or someone you know.
-
Hold yourself accountable. It all starts and ends with you.
-
We're all broken in some way — some just hide it better. Stop the pity party. You can't play both the victim and the hero.
-
Everything you've been told is a lie. Social norms are a combination of every bias created, and you don't need to conform.
-
Exercise your IDGAF muscle. It's OK if they don't like you. Build your "I Don't Give a Fuck" muscle.
-
Challenge your own limits. Push your mind and body to grow every day. It doesn't get easier, but you get stronger.
-
Earn your own respect to build confidence — there is no shortcut. You can't build confidence from lies. Put in the work.
